Despite the bad reviews and poor box office performance, I went ahead and checked out the movie. To be fair, Brolin made a good Johan Hex, and the beginning of the film was very promising. However, it was just too poorly put together to be good overall. Much of Hex's past was in the form of flashbacks which interrupted the flow of the movie, and some things of his past (the significance of the crows, how he knew Fox's character, etc.) weren't explained at all.
