How it works: There is a dreamer and then the team enters his mind, but they each have their own role. Architect- Designs the places that they go to inside of the dream and makes it out to be like a maze. Thief- He can deguise himself as other people that are inside of the dreamer's subconscious mind And I wasn't sure what you called Arthur's or Cobb's roles. Anyway, in actual dreams you dream about people that you have soon before because your brain can't make up people. In the movie, it had the same idea and all the people in the dream were from the dreamer's subconscious. When the people went into the dreamer's dream, they had to make sure that they didn't realize it was a dream. If they realized it was a dream then their subconscious mind would realize that something was wrong. If that happened then the people inside the dream would attack the people that threatened the dreamer because they are apart of the dreamer's subconscious and the subconscious part of the brain is trying to protect the person. The dreamer could figure out it was a dream if they were told it was one or if their dream became ridiculously impossible or strange to their perception of the real world. Totems are objects that they create so they know that they are in reality. They have a special characteristic about them that does/ doesn't happen in the real world and the dream world. Ex) Cobb's dradle thing wouldn't stop spinning if he was in the dream world but would topple over in the real world. If you die you wake up.



Plot: Cobb and Arthur were given a job to go into Saito's mind but I'm not sure as to why but they failed because he figured out it was a dream. Then they woke themselves up but it was a dream inside of a dream and he figured that out too. Eventually they wake up and Saito basically bribes them into doing a job for him. He wants them to plant an idea into Fisher's brain. The idea of him to split up his empire because otherwise he would become a superpower therefore becoming s big threat. Anyway, they have to plant the dream far enough into his mind so that he does it. Leonardo accepts the job with the promise of his record being cleaned. Leonardo tries to find a new crewto work with because the two he had been with before had bailed. He finds a new thief and architect. They finally device a plan that will work and go into his mind. They sedate themselves so they will stay asleep for the whole plane ride and because they are sedated, it means that they can go into limbo Limbo is when you are trapped inside of your own mind basically. So they sedate themselves and go into his mind. They go through each level of the mind altogether they go through three plus limbo. Each time they went through the next level, there became a new dreamer. First Fisher was the dreamer then Arthur and then I think Earries then I don't think there was one for the limbo part. Anyway, they face military trained men inside of his dream because being as targeted as Fisher is, he was trained to protect his mind. They turn Fisher against himself because he thought he was in someone else's dream when in fact it was his own. They eventually got him to break into the safe where the idea was finlly planted into his head. Saito and Cobb unfortunately go into limbo along with the girl from Juno but she gets out. As for Cobb and Saito you never really find out. In limbo he explains how he planted an idea in his wife's mind and that idea consumed herself and eventually caused her death. The reason why he did this was because he wanted them to wake up from limbo but she believed it was reality so the idea that he had planted was about it not being reality. Unfortunately, he didn't realize that the idea would remain even after they woke up and that's why she killed herself because she thought she would wake up if she did. The others woke up by giving themselves a kick. It's like an impact that causes you to wake up but they had to time them precisely. They used the music to signal the others that they were preparing to set off the kick and then they had to cue in the others from the layers deeper. In the end you don't know if Cobb or Saito wake up because it doesn't really give it away. That's up to the watcher.
