Dragons, being creatures of myth, are interpreted in multiple ways. But, also, the night fury was to be the most kid friendly while still staying true to the characteristics of a sneaky, fast dragon. Hence the tail fins and the second pair of wings below the others. Also, the shape of the dragon worked well for arrow dynamics. Note: I know I made spelling errors.
