This stuffed animal is TINY.It makes one poorly crafted roaring sound. And its ugly...not at all cute like the dragon in the movie. Its too bad there is nothing better out there. I for one normally hate going to Walmart since I don't like supporting them but the fact is this one is nearly 3x as much seeing how Walmarts is 5 dollars. About palm size, wings are felt. They had Night Fury, Nadder, I think the last was the Gronkle, tap em and they make their roar, got it as a stocking stuffer for my sister. It's ugly, but in a cute way. It's not a deeply philosophical story and may be called simple by some, but what it attempts to do it does well through the use of cleverly written characters, stylized visuals, and a great soundtrack. The story: May not be the most original premise in the world but is presented in a very fluid manner with original and funny jokes aimed at adults and kids alike. The ending may or may not make you cry happily but odds are to the former no matter whether you're single, married, with kids, or a kid yourself. It's a story that touches anyone with parents. The characters all seemed to posses traits which viewers can identify with someone in their lives, which is very difficult to do and shows good writing (Notable use of a great portrayal of a single dad family). The Visuals: Stylized and beautiful. The characters all have pronounced physical character, none are the stereotypical "beautiful" person yet even with their pronounced cartoonish traits they all seem very real to the viewer as believable characters with real lives, almost like caricatures of real people left over from a carnival in any random state.Items in the movie do seem to have well-rendered visual textures, and the style of them follows the style of the people. I never noticed any horrible mistakes, everything looked wonderful. Sound: Pharrel contributes some wonderful songs to the soundtrack that serve to show that children's movies don't have to rely entirely on recycled tunes. They are both fun and very modern sounding. In addition, the movie doe utilize a Bee Gee's disco hit: You Should Be Dancing, and the classic Boogie Fever by the Sylvers. They add the needed back beat to a couple of dance scenes that you will either love or hate, depending on your tastes. :) The negatives and conclusion: The complaints are few. Some say the story leans too much to the main character Gru's plot, and not enough to his later interactions with the girls. Some complained that use of obvious 3D tricks was so prevalent that it detracted from the plot. I personally didn't think that either of these was a major issue, this movie isn't supposed to be perfect, it's supposed to entertain and touch you emotionally and I felt that it accomplished this well. Just go in expecting a fun time and you'll most likely enjoy yourself. :) Posted on October 29, 2010 Codi Bemiller says... i bought this for my child and she loves it.she consantly plays with it. she might hope you think this helpful, because she thinks it is fun. Adults and kids will have a good time watching it. This is a keeper for my collection. Posted on November 1, 2010 Viola Mcgunnis says... I have just received this...and re-looking at the image online. The tag hanging off the side in the back should give you a clue how big this is... I just did not notice the tag when I ordered... and for the cost I paid ($13) I just expected something larger than my fist.. I'm sure my kids will love having this dragon to go along with the movie...but seriously...If I had realized how tiny this was...I would not have ordered it. When he confronts his Viking ways he must decide for himself weather to dispatch his prey or will he come to an understanding of the true nature of the beast. If you own cats you can see the dilemma and the conflict. Not that any feline is in danger of being dispatched. There is nothing unique about this movie. The story is old as the hills. The animation while not intrusive to the message is not unique either. There are no news truths or insights or anything. There is the standard minus and a boy coming of age with others attempting to do so also. It is refreshing to find the single family parent is the father however it is the old single parent family conflict. The one big flaw in the story is that the only dragon that could use befriending was targeted for dispatching by everyone including fellow dragons; what kind of message does that send?I have to admit I did not read the book so I cannot compare the book/movie. On the positive side they picked some good voices (see the DVD extras) for the individual characters. They did not constantly bombard the movie with unrelated background music. There attempt at cute contemporary dialog works pretty well. The dialog was not drummed down as most of the later Disney movies. For the technically inclined, I watched the Blu-ray version but not the 3d. Nothing ageist 3D just do not have a fancy TV yet. The disk ran well in the Sony player. I did not try it in my other players. Posted on November 2, 2010 Jarvis Sjoquist says... Sure, it's fun to see movies like Inception, Predators, The Expendables. I enjoyed all three of those movies I saw. But then again, it's also fun to get a release and go see one of those cute films that is just a nice little fun, clean release. And "Despicable Me" is just that! I did indeed see Toy Story 3 and loved it, but believe it or not, I may have enjoyed this movie just a bit more. Despicable Me is 90 minutes of pure fun. It's safe for the whole family, and is wacky, out there FUN. Parents will not have to worry about seeing their characters looking at death straight in the eye in an incinerator, or there being rude jokes aplenty, because your kid will love this and so will you. You'll be surprised at how great the characters are, or how quirky and fun the minions can be, and how much you'll be laughing. And to top it all off, this film in 3D has some of the best 3D I've seen! The film is about Gru, a foreign criminal who is skilled in stealing massive objects. He has stolen many things in a lifetime alone, from the Times Square Jumbotron to the Paris Eiffel Tower. He runs an army of cute yellow minions, and he plans to steal the moon, his greatest crime. However though, a copycat named Vector, who is smarter than him too, has stolen the pyramid of Giza and replaced it with an inflatable one. To add insult to injury, he now has to adopt THREE little girls. As if working too hard wasn't enough? He's gonna have a hard time running those lives!!! This film has it all. Great humor, cute animation, Good 3D (STAY THROUGH THE END CREDITS!!!), and some good voice acting. If you want some good clean fun, be sure to see this movie! I went to this movie reluctantly, mostly because my ten year old talked me into it.I had only seen the trailers and I was expecting an extended version of Spy vs Spy, which I have never really loved. This movie suprised and delighted me.Far from being a sad 3D version of silly one-upmanship, this movie had a lot of heart, and a lovely message. I especially enjoyed how the main character struggled with the growth he experiences throughout the movie. We get to see him struggling with the difficulty of giving up his old behavior patterns and goals, even though he clearly sees that he could be happier if he let them go.And the difficulty that Groo's only friend has with the changes he experiences as he lets three little girls into his life, and how his friend tries to prevent him from changing, are a great reminder that sometimes when we make positive changes in our lives the people around us aren't always as supportive as they should be. My son loved the movie too, although not for quite the same reasons I did.He wants a glass floor shark tank for our living room now.I said I'd think about it.
