I skate but i am considering a longboard so i can get to class Faster.
How Much Faster / less energy consuming is your average longboard? Assuming the Distance, type of pavement, etc. Is All equal.

longboardsare much faster and made for going downhills and distances. on the other hand skateboards are more for tricks. longboards are much easier to turn on and in my opinion are much easier to ride. longboards are not very energey consuming. if ur going on a flat surface or slightly downhill u wont have to pump much. another thing is longboard wheels are much bigger and they wont wear out as eaisily as skateboard wheels.
