I bought this book before my neurosurgery rotation and I was floored at how terrific it was.Not only is there just about anything you might ever need to know about NS in it, but everything the author says it supported by research. Each chapter has an exhaustive listing of the citations.Awesome!

I knew something about NS and felt prepared from Hal Blumenfeld's "Neuroanatomy through Clinical Cases," but having this small book in my pocket made all the difference.I carried it everywhere and even brought it into surgeries, and was able to quickly flip through to look up things.I learned a huge amount in a short period of time.I can easily see how this book could carry you from third year through early residency, when you graduate to other NS Thieme books.

I have used this Handbook of Neurosurgery since its inception over 10 years ago.In my residency training program, it is referred to as the "Bible" of Neurosurgery. The current edition continues the trend of excellence set by its predecessors.Broad in scope and utility, this single reference is all any resident needs to survive an on-call night in any neurosurgery residency training program.

The current edition is a single volume (the edition previous to this one was a two-volume set, much to the dismay of myself and fellow residents). The only negative comment that I can make is that as the book tries to encompass more and more information, it has grown larger and more unwieldy. The first and second editions could be placed into the pocket of a lab coat; this current edition's size prevents it from being easily carried on the wards.

Still, overall it is the most useful single text that any student or resident of neurosurgery could purchase, and at[the price] it is a relative BARGAIN in comparison to the other textbooks of Neurosurgery that cost upwards of $200.

Greenberg's "Handbook of Neurosurgery" is a well writen, concise and practical reference manual for the use of the non-neurosurgeon who has to deal with neurosurgical patients and their unique problems. As a part of my postgraduate trainig I worked in a Neurotrauma ward, both with brain injured and spinal injured patients. So, my knowledge of Neurosurgery was lacking. However, as I purchased this book I became more familiar with the general principles and practice of Neurosurgery.

However lacking in regard to Neuroimaging and surgical techniques, Greenberg's "Handbook of Neurosurgery" provides excelent chapters of neurointensive care, drug use, dosages and side effects, clinical tests of value, as well as comprehensive analysis of the diseases and disease processes encountered.

I was told this book was the "bible" of Neurosurgery. I agree completely. It has almost everything you need for the day-to-day work. It lacks some explanations and details, but given its size I think it's acceptable. A great book.

It is indispensable for every neurosurgeon. Provides quick and essential information about virtually all matter. Despite it is a handbook it carry even more information than some text books. I wish a PDA version so I will could carry away in my pocket.

Dr. Greenberg has written a neurosurgical indispensable. May it continue to merit the thanks of the neurosurgical resident in years to come.

As a practitioner of Neurosurgery this book provides a very good fast review of fundamental facts. I have been bought this book since the first ed. Very useful until fifth edition.
Unfortunately I have a great but for this last edition:
My HANDBOOK OF NEUROSURGERY bought with the help of Amazon has not the page 257, instead page 157 is displayed.
For an editorial house as Thieme this is a great failure!
The Author does not have a reposition for page 257 in his web page www.grgraphics.com.

My advice is, look for another option until a pristine new edition of this book.

A "must have" book for young neurosurgeons. This brandnew edition surprisingly defines basics of neurosurgery in detail and makes it a good start point for residents.

The kind of book you can allways turn to for a quick and easy review of the matter you are dealing with. Pocket size and amazingly complete. A great help for neurosurgery students and residents.

The book is extremely exhaustive in its coverage of Neurosurgical topics, but is too dense for the medical student getting his/her first intro to Neurosurgery.Definitely a SUPERIOR reference and likely a must have for residency, but not the perfect companion for 3rd year rotations.Would recommend another introductory text.
