We would beg the teachers at my school to choose this play for our next competition, but unfortunately, there weren't enough "colored girls" (pun intended) in the theater dept. to pull it off properly. But I saw the movie it was OK. Big names and a silver screen along with the script itself was what made it captivating, not really the acting. The whole time I was just thinking Tyler Perry is attempting to provide this generation with it's own "The Color Purple". Hence Whoopy playing a major role
