This book is sooooo fabulous! It has close to 200 pages of pictures, sketches and quotes. a MUST have for any Cher or Xtina fan. Can't wait to see the movie, the book got me so excited!

This is a great coffee table book to have of this wonderful film. The photos are beautiful and it has quotes from different people who worked on the film. I got mine yesterday and can't stop flipping throught it. The movie's amazing too!

After watching one of my idols, Cher, in her latest movie I immediately purchased the soundtrack to "Burlesque" in which she co-stars with Christina Aguilera. I was surprised at how good the CD is as I am not really a huge fan of Christina's. I have to admit that she has, though, an amazing voice with emotional range for a singer so young. Christina carries the bulk of the tracks on the album (with eight songs) where Cher only records two. That is really the only problem I have with the "Burlesque" soundtrack. It would have been nice if both singers would have recorded an equal number of singles for the album, but I am not complaining. The two released by Cher (her first new recordings in seven years) are the jewels here, especially the Diane Warren-penned "You haven't Heard The Last Of Me". Warren wrote Cher's comeback song "If I Could Turn Back Time" in the late eighties and it's obvious from the vocals of Cher's on this song that Warren wrote it especialy for her. Cher's voice is raw, vibrant, and extremely strong, especially for a woman who is nearing 65. After following her career for decades I have to say her performance on this one song is probably the best work she has ever done. The song is about a performer who has reached the peak of her success with many believing she is washed-up, never to succeed again, but the singer states she will always be around and successful due to her determination and will-power. "You Haven't Heard The Last Of Me Yet" has already become a huge hit in the club circuit debuting at #35 on the Billboard Dance Charts.



I am also extremely impress by some of the performances of Christina's. Highlights of her songs include "Show Me Some Burlesque", "Something's Got A Hold Of Me", and "Bound To You". Trust me: even if your not a fan of Christina's you will become one after listening to "Burlesque". Aguilera is a young performer with an obvious drive to become a cult icon and working alongside the great Cher is not an easy task, but Christina holds her own both in the film and on the soundtrack.



"Burlesque" has debut at #18 on the Billboard Pop Album Charts selling 63,000 copies in its first week of release and selling an additional 108,623 copies in its second week signalling its immediate success as a movie soundtrack album.

For those disappointed that Christina Aguilera's followup album to Back to Basics didn't have a jazzy/bluesy second half, this album is a gift. Aguilera has a phenomenal voice that comes across in these songs. All of her songs, other than Bound to You, are upbeat and just sexy, fun songs where you can enjoy the range of her voice and talent.



"But I Am A Good Girl" especially reminds me of something from Chicago or Moulin Rouge... sort of like Marilyn Monroe's "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" but different. It's one of my favorites, but all of Aguilera's songs are good.



I love that they used excerpts of Marlyn Manson's "Beautiful People" for the same titled song. It's interesting to hear Aguilera's voice against a rock background for at least parts of the song. Now I'm wishing and hoping for Christina Aguilera to put out a rock album, sorta No Doubt or Evanescence like. A girl can hope...



I haven't really listened to Cher's earlier stuff. Her voice is a lot huskier than I prefer but these two songs show she's a very talented singer. The first is sort of upbeat whereas the second is slow. Each time I listen to the album, the more I fall in love with "Welcome to Burlesque"



Listen to the samples. They're pretty accurate representations of the songs. If you like the clips, just know there's a whole lot more of that on the album! In fact, my only complaint about this album is that it isn't longer!

If the movie reaches the level of these photographs,or the descriptions by the director Steven Antin-then the movie will be great entertainment. The director has had a love affair with the old art of true burlesque,and has gone to great lengths to transform his passion to this movie. There are plenty of pictures here to illustrate the film and please fans of all the stars. I for one am really thankful to see Cher at the helm of this project and chuckled when she described the coaching of tears out of Christina.The book is a good deal for the money!The paper is nice and all the actors have great shots of their performances.

Bouncing back from her critically acclaimed but highly hibernated Bionic release this past summer, Christina Aguilera decided to (in the words of Jay-Z) "choose her own fate/drove by the fork of the road and went straight", by not only starring in one of the most anticipated movies this fall BUT also recording the movie's soundtrack. Cher comes along for the ride on a few songs to provide a 1930s - 1960s inspired sound all can appreciate.



Christina starts out the soundtrack with "Something's Got a Hold on Me", a very 1930's up tempo tune. It sounds refreshing, yet with a classic feel. Christina voice blends perfectly with the melodies of the song. Cher delivers on "Welcome to Burlesque", which comes off simple and quaint, but she really goes in on the song "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me", which is written by ballad queen Diane Warren (Celine Dion, Dru Hill, Brandy, Bon Jovi). "Express" gives us a little "Bionic" feel as Danja takes his production to another level. Christina diversifies her sound and showcases her vocal ability for a more slowed down "Bound To You", which is one of the best songs on the soundtrack (next to "You Haven't Seen The Last of Me").



With writing and production credits from Cher, Tricky, Danja, and the for mentioned Diane Warren, the soundtrack gives a little jingle and jangle, swing and suave songs that blend perfectly together. Hopefully the movie will live up to the same expectations!

I can't begin to express my admiration for the movie after seeing it with my friends today, who also adored it. No adequate words come to mind. And these songs mean even more than they did on Monday when I first purchased this album, after seeing it!



I perceived a strong vibe that the underlying metaphor in the movie is indeed a reflection of the current state of music, where performance, theatrics and the smoke and mirrors of a good show are more significant to people than true talent, which Christina most definitely has. How many times has Christina been unjustly compared or overlooked despite those powerhouse pipes simply because someone else can dance better while lipsynching or because they wear absurd and insensible clothing, or because they're prettier? I respected the film so much for making it a point to address that the truth is struggling desperately to survive in this industry.



It was just as Vince stated in the beginning; it is all about people who come to see them do a routine lipsynching to the greats, that the legends are of a bygone era, and although their spirit is very much alive in artists like Christina, if we don't appreciate and cherish the fragile essence of their presence among us, they will disappear with the shifting tide, and fade away all too soon with time. We need to preserve people like Christina, not pit them against other females that are NOT in their class, or to report scandals about them and harsh untruths, or cast a deaf ear to their music because it is meant for a creative mind and good taste rather than a club. The true divas are fading away. But their presence will always be known, like that one pure white shell against a beach of sandy brown grains.



And the world will know they lived and breathed that legacy. My unconditional respect for Christina Aguilera, who demonstrates to me with each song and each role that she is indeed legendary, and deserves to carry the respect and fortune her talent warrants, before she is nothing more than a fond memory of the last true musician. The last elegant human voice, lost in a chorus of auto-tune.

Back in the 1950s and 1960s when major "big budget" movies like Cleopatra, Ben-Hur and the Greatest Show on Earth played large theaters across the country (complete with intermissions!) souvenir "program books" were always sold in the lobby. If you go to see a touring company of shows like Jersey Boys or Wicked, you'll find these too.They are large soft-bound books with many photos and bios of the about the cast and graphics from the stage and costume designers.



Well, this book is the same thing. It's the "official companion" book to this new film starring Cher and Christine Aguilera being issued well before the films debut. Its just hardbound rather than the softcover ones sold in theaters. (and quite a bit thicker.)Except for a brief hint at the plot, there's nothing here which even tells you the period in which the play takes place. It appears to be about a late 20th century tribute to the "golden days of Burlesque" from the 1920s and 30s. But you won't learn anything about burlesque (the lower-case word) in this volume. You won't even learn anything about the cast - except the accolade that they give to one another. This is, plain and simply a souvemir of a film that no one has seen yet.



There certainly is a fan base for both of the starring "C"'s (Cher and Christina, and they will probably want it. But don't expect to find many words in the book, its mostly colorful photos and scenic designs with brief captions. Just know what's inside.
